It’s Like A Jungle Sometimes (2012)

  • June 10, 2012

It’s Like A Jungle Sometimes was a third year project @ RMIT undertaken by 4 students. We were issued a challenge to design a convergence media project; a project that could be delivered in a non-linear way, across varying platforms and mediums. This gave us the chance to tell part of the story across social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Youtube, etc.

The theme given us to us was ‘Risk’. When our production crew thought of the term risk, we thought of social situations, social anxiety and depression, specifically around youth and university students. The premise of the project is that we all have outer skins and shells that we wear in life. Sometimes one has to risk dropping their social and personal walls in order to meet new friends, gain greater social or professional opportunities, or even find yourself a partner or significant other.

The web-based series has 7 parts. There is an opening trailer on the front of a website that we also designed. From there, you can click on either one of our 3 characters – Nelly, our elephant, Leo our Lion and Ted, obviously our teddy bear. All come at the issue of social anxiety and depression with different experiences and angles. Each deal with their own social situations very differently.

We were tremendously proud of this production – and even as a final year university piece, we feel that it still stands strongly to this day. We are still in the process of promoting this concept and still wish to speak further with Beyond Blue and similar organisations to hopefully re-float this production.
